The trail crosses between coastal hammock and open water. Live oaks hung with Spanish moss rise above saw palmetto, cabbage palm, and dense understory. Through the openings, the estuary comes into view. Raccoons and other small mammals move beneath the trees, while ibis and egrets stand along the wet margins or perch on dead snags rise above the trees.
A pavilion, picnic tables, and restrooms stand near the trail. From there, a sidewalk weaves into the scrub and gives way to a dirt path. Slash pines rise above saw palmetto, and Spanish moss hangs from branches along the path. The vegetation presses close as the path approaches the lagoon.
At the end, the path opens to the water. A fishing dock leads down toward the lagoon, with a bench facing the shoreline. Oysters show beneath the shallow water, and rocks extend toward a small strip of shore.
